Days 4-7.

Top of the parking garage. Nice view before the shit I’m about to write.

Day 4 (Jan 22): Today sucked. Bad. On top of super-stressful and upsetting news in the morning, I took my dogs to the dog park in the afternoon to relax, and to walk. Well, my little guy, Ory, got ATTACKED by a big dog. Trying to kill him. I’ve never seen anything like it. I don’t recall a time in my life I’ve actually FREAKED out, yelling, crying, and I couldn’t do anything to stop it….so upsetting and I’ve never felt so helpless. As I cried in my car-before driving home and after the asshole LEFT the park after yelling at me for not ‘helping’ getting his vicious dog off mine (which, btw, he put his hands INTO his dogs mouth to try to release his jaw…and got punctured)…anyway, he left without checking on my dog, me, or giving me his info to pay for the vet bill…I kept thinking to myself, “what is wrong with you, you held guys who had been blown up in Iraq and were strong as a rock, yet you completely LOSE YOUR SHIT in the dog park?” It was one of the most horrific experiences ever.
Absolutely shitty day and I made the decision to (safely) drive home and have some hard cider.
Walk: 20 min.

One of his punctures. 😦

Day 5 (Jan 23): Gosh. I am writing this 2 days later and I cannot remember what I did. I spent the day trying to recover from the day before…UGH. I need to blog every day. Maybe it’ll come back to me…
Treadmill: 40minutes! YES! I blogged and walked on the treadmill. Whew.

Day 6 (Jan 24): 40 min ‘hill’ training. 2 rounds of the stairs, and 2 rounds of the parking garages at the tallest building in the city (not that tall). It’s the only way to get this kind of cross-training since we live at sea level with no hills.
Felt it in my calves!

Concrete stairwell sucks.

Time for the parking garage…

Day 7 (Jan 25): Treadmill walk: 20min.
Kettlebell swings: 50
My calves are sore from the stairs!

End of week 1 thoughts: I didn’t do enough “real” workouts. Day 6 kicked my butt, and there is nothing wrong with walking most days, but I can step it up this coming week. I’m ok with it, I need to ease back into the routine.

After my hard stair run, I treated myself to a strawberry cortado. It was delicious.

Kicking my own a$$

Still taking it easy on my knee, but it’s time to see what I can do. I decided to not go to CF this week since I have the double marathons this weekend. I’ll start back next week (and see how my knee is feeling). There’s plenty I can do at home, so I did.

9/29: KB sets during the day. Every time I went outside doing things like laundry and garden, etc. I picked up the KB and did some sets.

9/30: 26lb tire drag, .25mi intervals x4. In between, KB sets: swings, SDHP, squats. Tire “box” jumps. Did this throughout the day.

10/1:
AM: walk, 45min outside
1hr on treadmill after

10/2: forgot.

So, I had this written and ready to publish Friday before I left. I log-in this morning and see I never hit “publish” and didn’t schedule it. Great. So, I update it a little bit this morning and hit “publish”. Then of course WordPress had a glitch and I lost everything I’d written after 10/1. Great. Thanks.

Now you get an even crappier post. Today I’ll be writing my race & weekend recap, for you 5 people to enjoy tomorrow. Let’s just say it was gorgeous. The absolute best weekend to go to North American Canada! (I call everything up North “canada”. I enjoy annoying K by calling Ohio the “tundra that everyone hates”. Haha)

Hope no one wasted their time reading this crap today, but I’m too tired to care to fix it. I would say “happy Monday,” but it’s Tuesday. It’s my Monday though. Tomorrow will be better…tomorrow will be better…if we keep saying it’s true, it’ll happen, yes?

Whole..day 8-10

Day 8:
Oh geez…I forgot to log it all. Dang. It was kind of a “down”, easy day.
I did have curry on lettuce for lunch!

Day 9:
AM: 1hr power walk
post walk: celery & cracksauce (avocado dip)

Nothing exciting.

Weight lifting:
bar warmup (5min)
sets of 5 reps
Hang Cleans: 55, 65, 75, 80
Bench Press: 65, 75, 80
Pullups (strict, banded) 3 sets of as many as possible. (Spoiler: not that many were possible. Arms: sore.)
Cool down: playing in the pool
Food:
Bowl of zoodles with basil pesto and chicken. Delicious!

Mix it up. Eat.

Day 10 (today!)
AM: 45min walk.
Hitting the road!

We leave today for a quick weekend trip. I got a free entry to one of my most FAVORITE marathons: Hatfield & McCoy in Kentucky/WV. Yes, both states. It starts in one and runs along the border to West Virginia. It’s so gorgeous and exciting to see the 26 Hatfield & McCoy historical markers (and houses, and meet them!) along the route! It’s my fiftieth marathon/ultra. Number 50! WHOA. It’s low compared to many of my Maniac friends, but pretty damn high compared to the normal population. FIFTY! If there is moonshine on the course like last year, I just may partake.480447_400388846743578_32193635_n

Day 1. #2.

Here we go again. It feels a little unoriginal to do this again, but honestly, it wasn’t that bad! The end of the year, Dec. mostly, I really pushed the boundaries of what I considered an acceptable, or ‘valid’ (per my rules) workout. I started sliding to less ‘real’ workouts in Oct & Nov as my marathons & trail runs peaked for 100 training. Dec was spent minimizing damage from the 100miler. So, I’m not too thrilled with my ‘workouts’ for a little under the last quarter of ’13.

Today the weather was gross and the CF gyms were closed. So, just a walk today. I’m fine with it as it hurts to move AT ALL from CF yesterday. I’m so out of shape!
DAY 1: Walking (treadmill) 30 minutes.
20 burpees: I’m doing a 2014 burpee challenge. Averaging about 20 a day, I should be done in April per the ‘challenge’ a friend started on Facebook.

So, I want to do this all over again. I need some specific goals, but I do know this year will include less running (over 800 miles last year, the highest for me ever!) and less races. More weights. More interval (HIIT) workouts. More CrossFit. MORE walking. I want to be more ‘healthy’ and balanced with my physical activity. None of this seems hard to do.

I’m also doing another Whole30 this month. I started today off with 3 fried eggs, some guacamole, 2 pieces bacon, & 1/2 a big Texas grapefruit (the best!). Some days are filled with pretty food. Some are not. Nothing to hide here and definitely not ashamed to show ‘real’ pics. Nothing fake here!
Lunch: hodgepodge of stuff: tuna, celery & Nuttzo, 1/2 grapefruit.
Dinner: zucchini w/ duck sausage, marinara

What’s awesome is having a partner who doesn’t mind doing the errands/shopping. I despise it. So today I get a text, “Do we need anything from the store?” and I reply with, “Spinach would be nice, but it’s not dire.” The good news is he did come back with spinach. The bad news is that he came back with all this too. (I had picked up the bananas and sweet potatoes yesterday, so he doesn’t get any points other than actually getting the spinach) Did I mention Whole30 started today?

Not yum.

Until Day 2, peeps!

Day 364. Whoa.

I’ve really failed my blog. That makes me a little sad, as so much has happened this year, but I’m in no way dwelling on it or upset with myself. I can’t change that.

Right now, I’m walking on the treadmill, re-watching Breaking Bad (season 1, episode 6) because someone hasn’t watched the series. I’m re-watching for him. It’s such a hardship.
Day 364: Walking. Treadmill. 1 solid hour.
Knee feels fine (I don’t feel anything other ‘normal’ actually), but my toes are still numb. Between the massive blood blisters (and subsequent dead nails) and the nerve damage from the repeated pounding up and down hills, hitting roots, etc, I’ve got 3 numb toes: both big toes and the second toe on my right foot. Nothing I’m worried about, it hasn’t hindered anything. The feeling will either come back, or it won’t. Whatevs.

Walking. Yay.

This past month I’ve focused on finishing finals, moving back to LA (YAY! I seriously hate Ohio) and recovering from that little race…oh yeah, I did finish! The weather made it tough, and my body hurt is ways I never expected…but I finished! (I’ll do a race report…promise. Can’t say when, but I will!)

Where do I go from here? I plan to:
write a race report
write a ‘year end’ post
write goals for 2014
Will those entries be timely? I don’t know. We’ll see how long I feel like sitting at the computer today and tomorrow.
I’m ITCHING, bad, to start some real workouts again. I haven’t wanted to be lazy, but my knee has been cranky since the race and I wanted to be sure to heal and not inflict any chronic injury to myself by doing too much too soon.
